What is a Headbanger?
The answer is an off-road, fell, track or trail race, and can be either club organised or open events, and range from 2 miles up to marathon distance.
Who does these?
Anyone in the club can compete in the series, there are medals for both the All-Rounder and for the Short series (up to about 8ish miles).
What is needed?
To get started, all you need is an ability to run, and a willingness to accept a challenge. For the harder events map, compass and other equipment will be needed.
There are about 14 events, with extra points available for the longer races, this year these start in April with the last in November, most are hilly, but there are some fantastic views at the top, and are generally in scenic area’s. We always include low key events such as the Shining Cliffs races and the Brooksie Bash club events, but at the other end of the scale, there is the 26mile/4500ft climb Dovedale Dipper Challenge, either way there are events at all levels.
To celebrate the clubs 25th anniversary, we have added an additional challenge, this is to complete 5 specific events, the total times are then added together to produce an additional event, the "Country Mile Challenge", the total distance will be in the region of 25 miles!. There will be a flyer soon with more information.
Full details of all the events are from the links in the diary, or on the club notice board.
If you want an electronic copy of the events, or the Brooksie Bash route, e-mail me from the contacts list.
